Here's a story for you, maybe it's true, maybe it's not, but the meaning is real. One year the Mississippi River overfowed its banks and flooded several states, with water so deep that only the tops of the roofs could be seen in some areas. This man named Roger barely made it out of his house in time and climbed onto his roof. As he leaned back against his chimney, he prayed: Oh God, please save me. I know you can perform a miracle. Send your angels to rescue me! He would have prayed longer but his feet were getting wet from the rising water.

Just then a boat motored by, and the man inside yelled to Roger to get in. Roger, remembering his prayer, told the man to go on and help someone else. In time, a rubber raft floated by, and the people called for Roger to join them. Roger, still waiting for his miracle, waved them on with a smile. The water rose higher and Roger was forced to sit on top of his chimney. After a while, he prayed some more, and was interrupted by a loud voice from the sky. "We are here to get you!" About time! It's God and His angels! He opened his eyes and saw it was a man shouting through a bullhorn as he hovered above in a helicopter. Disappointed, Roger waved him on, waiting for his act of God.

The water soon enveloped Roger and well, he slept with the fishes. Soon, Roger meets God face-to-face. He says " It's nice to see you and all, but why didn't you hear my prayers?"

"I did. Didn't you notice the boat, raft, and helicopter I sent you?"

God is always trying to reach us, only maybe not in the way we're expecting. He is always calling us. We just have to choose to hear and respond.
